O general Marco Ant\u00f4nio Freire Gomes, ex-comandante do Ex\u00e9rcito, teria amea\u00e7ado prender o ent\u00e3o presidente Jair Bolsonaro (PL) em uma situa\u00e7\u00e3o em que Bolsonaro supostamente mencionou a possibilidade de realizar um golpe de Estado para permanecer no poder ap\u00f3s ser derrotado nas elei\u00e7\u00f5es pelo presidente Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva (PT). Essa cena teria ocorrido durante uma reuni\u00e3o no Pal\u00e1cio da Alvorada, conforme relatado \u00e0 Pol\u00edcia Federal pelo ex-comandante da For\u00e7a A\u00e9rea Brasileira (FAB), Carlos Baptista Junior. A CNN teve acesso ao documento completo que descreve o incidente.
Aos investigadores, Baptista J\u00fanior disse ainda estar convicto de que foi a posi\u00e7\u00e3o firme de Freire Gomes que impediu um golpe de Estado no Brasil.

\u201cCaso o comandante tivesse anu\u00eddo, a poss\u00edvel tentativa de golpe de Estado teria se consumado\u201d, disse o ex-chefe da Aeron\u00e1utica aos investigadores.
No depoimento, Baptista Junior afirmou tamb\u00e9m que, depois de Bolsonaro \u201caventar a hip\u00f3tese de atentar contra o regime democr\u00e1tico, por meio de alguns institutos previsto na Constitui\u00e7\u00e3o (GLO ou estado de defesa ou estado de s\u00edtio)\u201d, o ent\u00e3o comandante do Ex\u00e9rcito disse que \u201ccaso ele tentasse o tal ato teria que prender o presidente da Rep\u00fablica.\u201d
No seu testemunho, o ex-comandante da For\u00e7a A\u00e9rea Brasileira tamb\u00e9m menciona que tentou persuadir Jair Bolsonaro a n\u00e3o decretar Garantia da Lei e da Ordem, Estado de Defesa e de S\u00edtio.
Tanto o general Freire Gomes quanto o tenente-brigadeiro Baptista J\u00fanior afirmaram ter rejeitado em v\u00e1rias ocasi\u00f5es qualquer proposta de golpe, enquanto o ent\u00e3o comandante da Marinha, almirante Almir Garnier, teria oferecido o apoio da tropa a Bolsonaro.
