Ele assumiu o minist\u00e9rio no lugar de Walter Braga Netto, general na reserva, respons\u00e1vel por engajamento pol\u00edtico da Defesa numa escala sem precedentes desde a redemocratiza\u00e7\u00e3o.<br><br><br>O Comando do Ex\u00e9rcito agora est\u00e1 com Marco Ant\u00f4nio Freire Gomes, aspirante da Cavalaria da turma de 1980 na Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras, \u00e9poca em que Bolsonaro servia em Nioaque, Mato Grosso do Sul, e, nos intervalos, se dedicava \u00e0 agricultura. Freire Gomes foi promovido a general em julho de 2018, no governo Michel Temer.<br>O ex-ministro Braga Netto terminou a semana nomeado como \u201cassessor especial\u201d no Pal\u00e1cio do Planalto.
